Stand on the rim at Fira in July and you can count the fleet from a café table. Catamarans strung along the cliff wall, day boats tied up at Nea Kameni, a caique crossing to Thirassia, and by five a steady procession heading west for the sunset. The island runs on boats. The question is which one you want.

What does a caldera sail actually cover?
The cliff wall, the two volcanic islets in the middle of the bay, and the open water west of them. Where do the boats leave from?
Two harbours do most of the work. Vlychada, on the south coast, is a flat twenty-minute drive from Fira with a proper marina. Ammoudi Bay sits roughly 300 steps below Oia at the end of a switchback road. Most cruises include hotel pickup, and the pickup point is confirmed when you book.
Vlychada is the easy one, and the Lagoon 560 and the private Wind Spirit both go from there with transfers included. Ammoudi is the atmospheric one, tucked under the red cliff with fish tavernas along the quay, and it is where the dinner cruise and the Romantic catamaran cast off.
